How to prepare ‘Limoncello’, digestive, fresh and homemade?

Limoncello is one of Europe’s most iconic drinks, known for its fresh, sweet flavor and its power to help round off strong meals.

But what you may not have known is that you can make this magical drink from the comfort of your home. With just a couple of ingredients, you can achieve that special Limoncello flavor. A word of caution, though: you’ll need to steep it for 30 days, so if you plan to serve the drink on any occasion, it’s best to plan ahead.

You will need: 12 yellow lemons, a 750 ml bottle of Everclear (190 proof grain alcohol), 3 cups of water, 3 cups of sugar and a jar or container to store the recipe.


Peel the lemons. Put them in a large jar, add a bottle of vodka and stir. Close well and leave the mixture in a dark, cool and closed place for 30 days, at room temperature. After this period, the sugar is boiled with the water (making a simple syrup), for about 5 minutes. Let it cool to room temperature and then add it to the lemon and vodka mixture, along with the second bottle of vodka, mixing everything: then cover it and store it again for another 10 days, under the same conditions as before.
