How To Make Gin

Gin is created by distilling neutral grain alcohol with juniper berries and other botanicals to make the fragrant spirit we all know and love. Gins are made by adding botanical ingredients to neutral grains such as corn, rye, barley, wheat, oats, rice, or any other grain. Some of these grains are used to produce vodka, whiskey, brandy, gin, rum, vodka liqueur, cognac, vermouth, sherry, etc. For example, corn is used in vodka and vodka is produced by boiling corn kernels until the liquid is clear. Corn is also used for making beer, which is fermented with yeast. Another example is rice is boiled to extract the starch, after which it becomes a starch-based food product. Other grains include barley and wheat. Each grain is treated differently to achieve the desired flavor. When the grain mixture is distilled, water is added to bring the alcohol content down to about 70% alcohol. After the grains have been treated, there is usually a small amount of grain left over. That grain contains the botanic ingredients that are needed to turn the mixture into gin or other spirit. To make gin using this method, simply add the junipens and juniberries to your bottle of vodka.

Is gin just infused vodka?

Gin is just vodka infused with botanical ingredients, which is similar to flavouring vodka. However, gin isn‘t flavored with junipers, cinnamons, or other botanic ingredients. Instead, botans are used to add flavor to gin. This is unlike vodka which uses botany to make it taste better. Also, there are no artificial flavonoids in gin, unlike in vodka (which is why it tastes better). Gin is usually produced by distilling botannicals with grain ethanol. Distillation is a technique that uses heat to extract flavor from botanes.

Can you make gin from moonshine?

You are able to make Gin from Moonshining. This is possible by using a copper still which is capable of producing a high quality spirit. Moonshiners are people who make their own moonshinin based on a mash of grains and water, often using junipers as the primary flavorant. They then refine the spirit by distilling the mash again with junipexic acid added. After distillating the second time, this is mixed with water and the resulting mixture is then distilled again. Finally, after distilleries are finished, a final distillery is used to extract the desired flavor and aroma. Some of these distills are still operating today. For example, there is a distilery in New Orleans that produces gin using only junipane.
