Place the sliced tofu and cover with a light towel
This is one of the cheapest tofu to make and is made from soybeans, it is usually quite soft. However, when you marinate it, it turns into a firm tofu. This tofu is made by placing the soybeans in boiling water for about ten minutes. Once they are ready, strain them and pat them dry. Next, place the strained soybeans in a non-reactive container and add the baking soda and baking powder. Mix together, cover and let stand for about 20 minutes. This is called soaking the tofu. Finally, you will need to drain the excess liquid from the tofu and place it in a tofu press, which can be easily bought at a store. Place the sliced tofu in a non-reactive container and cover with a light towel. Make sure the bottom of the container is immersed in water, so that the tofu can be pressed evenly.
Start with 2 cups of water and 1tsp of salt
Grab your soybeans, tofu, and 2 cups of water and a 1tsp of salt. Bring all of this to the boil and simmer for 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. If you don’t have a stand mixer you can do it with a regular blender, but you will need to keep an eye on it and stir frequently.
Let the water and salt mix for about 20 minutes
Cut tofu into cubes. Add water and mix well. Then drain the water and put the tofu in the oven. Cook for about 20 minutes. Do not place the tofu in hot water, as the boiling point of water will change.
After about half an hour, check to see how firm the tofu is
If your tofu is still a little chewy, place it on a small cutting board and press down firmly with a meat tenderizer.
The tofu will last up to 4 days in the refrigerator
