how to fry potatoes

Potatoes can be fried in a variety of ways, from deep frying in oil to baking. To fry potatoes, the entire potato should be cut in half. Dip the potato in a shallow bowl of water to remove any starch. In order to avoid getting a soggy potato, the potato should be placed in a bowl of ice water for at least 30 minutes. You will need at least 3 quarts of oil to fully fry 2 pounds of potatoes, or enough to cover the potatoes to at least 1/4 of an inch deep. It’s a good idea to use a deep fryer with a thermometer. Adjust the heat to 350 degrees and use an accurate digital thermometer. You can also add 1 tablespoon of oil to the oil to bring the temperature down a bit, but this will slow down the process. Fry the potato for approximately 8 minutes, or until it begins to brown. Flip the potato and fry for another 5 minutes, or until it is brown. Remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel.
