What Is Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies?
Many people think of homemade chocolate chip cookies as a combination of two ingredients: chocolate chips and oatmeal. They are sometimes dusted with powdered sugar, or dipped in melted chocolate. But, in reality, homemade chocolate chip cookies are actually very simple. A typical chocolate chip cookie contains five basic ingredients: flour, brown sugar, white sugar, butter, and chocolate chips. The recipe will also include additional ingredients depending on the texture you want. Chocolate chips are typically the finishing touch in chocolate chip cookies, giving them a sweeter, richer taste than a simple cookie without chocolate chips. The chocolate chips add the sweetness while the butter gives them the creamy texture. Baking mix can also be added as a substitute for the flour. This will give you a softer cookie.
What do you do with chocolate chips?
To melt chocolate chips, you just need a double boiler. Set the water to medium heat, then place the chips in the top pot. Place the top pot on the stove, and cover it with a lid. Allow the chocolate chips to melt until they reach the consistency of fudge.
How to Melt Chocolate Chips in the Microwave
If you’ve ever melted chocolate for a chocolate chip cookie, then you know that microwaves are a great way to do this. However, when microwaving chocolate chips, you’ll need to pay close attention to a couple of details. To make sure your chocolate chips are melted properly, you’ll want to mix the chocolate chips into a small amount of shortening. This ensures that the shortening melts first and the chocolate chips melt at the same time. To make sure that the shortening is fully melted, you’ll also want to heat the mixture in a microwave-safe bowl for about 30 seconds, taking care to stir the mixture in between heating sessions. As the chocolate begins to melt, it will begin to fizzle and it will lose its shine. You’ll know that the chocolate chips are fully melted if the shiny surface has been replaced with a slightly glossy one. From this point, you’ll want to carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Take the bowl off the heat and allow it to sit for a few seconds before you transfer the chocolate mixture to a plastic container. Let the chocolate cool completely before you store it in a cool, dry place.
